HISTORY OF ST. MARK’S INSTITUTE

In 1986, St. Mark’s Institute as it is known today had a humble beginning. It started as a preschool with only thirty-two kindergarten pupils. It’s name was then Sunshine Preschool.

Owing to the goodwill complimentary to management sagacity, its operations grow vibrantly in a short span of time. In response to the growing demands of the surrounding community, it expanded its operations from preschool by opening a complete elementary course on its second school year of operations. Accordingly, it’s name was changed to Sunshine Grade School. From a handful of 32 pupils, its population mushroomed to 500 and then rose to eight hundred.

On its third year of operations, the high school level was opened to accommodate its graduating grade six pupils. It offered first year and second year high school with a considerably encouraging number of high school students. From then on, its population continued to grow vibrantly so that the following school year, complete high school level was opened. Consistent to its mission and vision, it’s name was then changed to St. Mark’s Institute as a compliment to St. Mark, the Evangelist.

To accommodate the growing number of enrolment, the first and second floors of the high school building has to be constructed. During the succeeding years of operations, its population grow steadily. The complete construction of the high school building providing a total of 32 classrooms and the annex with a complement of fourteen rooms to house the primary grades, bespeaks of the vibrant growth that happened to SMI during the ensuing years up to the present time.

Along with the increase in pupil and student population, the number of faculty and staff also increased steadfastly year by year. Presently, the school operates with a total of eighty-five personnel from the top officials down to those involved in maintenance and janitorial services. The four school rooms that used to house a handful of preschool and grade school pupils is now operating with a total complement of 46 school rooms housing a total of 2,000 pupils and students from Preschool, Elementary and High School Departments.

Last SY 2005-2006 – SMI Annex started in #3 Topland Ave. Golden Gate Subdivision, Las Pinas City.  It started with 132 students, this year it increased to 200 students. SMIA projects to increase in number and enhance quality education.

Engrossed with its providential mission and vision, Management is looking forward confidentially with the Divine Guidance empowering and steering toward the attainment of its objectives.
